How cool is St George’s Hall in Liverpool?
Air Con to be refurbished.

The air-conditioning system at St George's Hall was the first attempt at air conditioning in a public building in the UK. It was designed by Dr. David Boswell Reid who also designed the system in the Houses of Parliament.

Ken Stott, MD of 4Seasons says, "It was revolutionary at the time but I'm glad to say we've come along way since then."

The original plans for the building did not allow for the ventilation system which was recommended at a later date. The aim of the system was to warm and ventilate the building without draughts. Fresh air was brought into the building via shafts at the eastern portico and the used air expelled through grilles in the ceiling into the roof spaces.
