Equipment selection
Air conditioning equipment from all of the principle manufacturers with a nominal rating of up to 7kw, is not designed to deal with high sensible heat loads. Consequently they: -
Are unable to cool to 180C (generally achieve 210C - 220C at best )
- Freeze up and go into defrost mode creating a fluctuating temperature in the server room
- Are not designed to run continuously 24/7 365 days a year
- Cannot opperate when the outside temperature drops to -50C or -100C.
- Have no manufacturer warranty if used in a server room
Other considerations
- Control and disposal of condensate
- Ensure condensate drain does not run above servers and integrate any auxiliary pumps with fan coil units, so that the fan coil cuts out if the pump fails, thus avoiding a flood
- Decay in capacity of system with respect to length of pipe run
- Decay in performance of system between maintenance visits
- Security of condenser(s) and pipe work
- With respect to vandalism or accidental damage
